There are restaurants you visit once because someone recommended them. And then there are restaurants you accidentally walk into one day, only to realise years later that they have quietly become your place.
For me, that place in Kochi is Little Soi, Kochi. I remember walking into Little Soi sometime in 2022, almost randomly. I didn't know then that this little discovery would turn into one of my favourite places to go whenever I'm in the city, especially when I'm looking for a good dinner, a date-night spot, or simply some really good sushi. And honestly, the sushi here is some of the best I've had in the city.

First Impressions
My first impression of Little Soi was that it felt like a little slice of Asia tucked right into the heart of Panampilly Nagar.
It's situated on the ground floor, just next to the Central Park, right where the younger crowd of Kochi seems to gather, especially in the evenings. Take a few steps further and look to your left, and you'll find Little Soi tucked into the corner.
The first thing that catches your eye is the red-and-black Asian-inspired interiors. It's bold, slightly moody and instantly different from the usual restaurants around Panampilly. And then there's the energy. With the park right outside and the buzz of Panampilly Nagar all around, Little Soi feels like it's perfectly placed in the middle of the city's youthful, social scene. You walk in expecting dinner. You end up staying for the vibe.

The Vibe Is Half the Experience
Some restaurants win you over with the food. Others make you want to stay long after the plates are cleared.
For me, Little Soi is a bit of both. From the moment you step inside, there’s this easy mix of Asian-inspired interiors, warm lighting, music and a youthful energy that makes the place feel lively without being overwhelming. It’s casual, colourful and just moody enough for a relaxed evening out.
And then there’s the wall. A huge artwork featuring smiling faces against bold red circles takes up almost the entire wall and instantly grabs your attention. It gives the restaurant a playful, artistic personality and looks even better against the deep red-and-black interiors.
Look up and you’ll find rows of red hanging tubes across the ceiling, adding another quirky detail to the space. Everything comes together, the artwork, lighting, colours and music, to create that unmistakable Little Soi vibe.
It’s also the kind of place where you don’t feel like you have to finish dinner and leave. You can order a few plates, share sushi across the table, talk for hours and let the evening take its own sweet time.

That’s probably why I’ve always found Little Soi perfect for dinners, catching up with friends or a casual date night. It feels social and relaxed rather than overly formal.
And one practical detail I genuinely appreciate — parking isn’t a headache. Having decent parking makes a big difference when you’re heading to Panampilly Nagar for dinner, especially on a busy evening. So yes, come for the sushi.
But give yourself a little time to soak in the interiors too.
Because at Little Soi, the vibe is very much part of the meal.
The Sushi: The Real Reason I Keep Coming Back
Let's talk about the important part. The sushi.
If someone asked me where to go for sushi in Kochi, Little Soi would definitely be on my list.
My personal favourite is the prawn tempura sushi.
There is something about that crispy tempura filling combined with the soft rice and sushi toppings that just works. It's the kind of dish I end up ordering even when I tell myself I'll try something different this time.
The current menu also has options such as Dynamite Roll, Crispy Salmon Maki, Dragon Maki and Green Dragon Maki, so there is plenty to explore if you're not the type to order the same thing every time. And yes, salmon sushi is another favorite of mine.
If you're going with someone who loves sushi, I'd suggest ordering a few different varieties and sharing them rather than committing to just one roll.
That's half the fun..

Don't Skip the Ramen
As much as I love the sushi, Little Soi isn't a one-dish restaurant.
The ramen deserves attention too.
On days when I want something warm, comforting and filling, ramen is usually my choice.
The restaurant's menu currently features different ramen options, including Shoyu Ramen and Okinawa-style ramen, along with other noodle dishes.
For me, it's the perfect second order alongside sushi.
Sushi for the fun.
Ramen for the comfort.
Honestly, it's a combination that's hard to beat.
And Then There Is the Iced Milo
One of my favourite little things to order here? Iced Milo.
It's simple, nostalgic and exactly the kind of drink that goes surprisingly well with an Asian meal. Little Soi currently lists Iced Milo on its drinks menu, described as a chilled, malty chocolate drink. It may not be the most adventurous thing on the menu, but it's one of those small details that has become part of my Little Soi order.
A Good Place for a Date Night
If you're looking for somewhere in Kochi for a casual dinner date, I'd definitely consider Little Soi.
It's not overly formal, which I like.
You can dress up a little, order sushi and ramen, grab a drink, sit around and actually enjoy the evening without making the whole thing feel too serious.
The ambience does a lot of the work.
And because the menu is fairly extensive, there's something for different tastes, from sushi and ramen to dim sums, Thai dishes, noodles and other Asian favourites.
One small tip, though: if you're visiting during a holiday or a particularly busy evening, I'd reserve a table in advance. The restaurant is listed as recommending table reservations, and Panampilly Nagar itself has become one of Kochi's popular dining areas.

What I Usually Order at Little Soi
If you're visiting for the first time and want to know what I would order, here's my little shortlist:
🍣 Prawn Tempura Sushi : My absolute favorite. If you're ordering only one sushi, start here.
🍣 Salmon Sushi : For the salmon lovers, definitely worth adding to the table.
🍜 Ramen : Perfect when you want something warm and comforting alongside the sushi.
🥤 Iced Milo : A nostalgic favorite that I almost always enjoy.
And then, depending on the mood, I'd add a few dim sums or another sushi roll and make it a proper spread.
Why I Keep Coming Back
The funny thing is, I didn't discover Little Soi through some elaborate food hunt. I just walked into the place in 2022. And somehow, years later, it has become one of those restaurants I automatically think of when I'm in Kochi and wondering where to go for dinner.
Maybe it's the sushi.
Maybe it's the ramen.
Maybe it's that giant graffiti artwork and the unmistakable Asian-inspired vibe.
Or maybe it's simply the familiarity of returning to a place you've enjoyed enough times that it starts feeling like your spot.
For me, it's all of it.
Little Soi is where I go when I want sushi, a good dinner and a little bit of that Kochi night-out energy, all in one place.
And if you're asking me for my personal pick for the best sushi in the city, Little Soi is very much in the conversation.
So the next time you're in Panampilly Nagar and craving sushi, you know where I'd send you.
Order the tempura sushi. Get the ramen. Don't forget the Iced Milo.
And leave some time to simply enjoy the vibe.
Because at Little Soi, the food may bring you in…
but the experience is what keeps you coming back.
Ciao from mmu. . ! Here’s to good sushi, late dinners, city lights, and finding little places that somehow become your favorites. Until the next bite, the next road, and the next little discovery.
