Some cafés become more than just places to grab a cup of coffee. They become part of your memories, your routines, and the stories you tell years later. For us, Café Babka in North Goa is one of those places.

Back during the Corona years, when we were living in Goa, weekends meant escaping from our work routine in Panjim and driving towards Anjuna. That drive itself felt therapeutic. As the city slowly disappeared behind us, the roads became quieter, greener, and more relaxed. Passing through the iconic Parra Road, lined with swaying coconut palms, always felt like the official start of the weekend.

And waiting for us at the end of that drive was Café Babka. Infact, the name itself piqued our curiosity. Babka is a traditional Eastern European sweet bread, beloved in countries like Poland and Ukraine, as well as in Jewish communities across Eastern Europe. Made with soft, buttery dough and often filled with rich chocolate, cinnamon, or nuts, it's the kind of comforting bake that stays with you long after the last bite.

A Quiet Little Café on the Way to Anjuna

Located on the road leading to the popular Anjuna Beach, Café Babka doesn't scream for attention. It's one of those places you discover almost by accident and then keep coming back to.

The café sits opposite a beautiful old Portuguese bungalow, adding to its old-Goa charm. With only limited parking available, it feels intimate rather than crowded, a refreshing change from the busy cafés that have become common across North Goa. Even before stepping inside, there's a sense of calm that instantly slows you down.

Coffee That Keeps You Coming Back

If there's one thing Babka consistently gets right, it's the coffee.

Whether you're looking for your morning caffeine fix or an afternoon pick-me-up, every cup is thoughtfully brewed and served without unnecessary fuss. But coffee isn't the only reason we return.

Their brownies are wonderfully rich and indulgent, while the freshly baked cookies have become a ritual for us. It's almost impossible to leave without ordering at least one sweet treat alongside the coffee.

Simple. Comforting. Delicious.

A Space for Every Season

One of the things we love most about Café Babka is how thoughtfully the space has been designed. Compact yet spacious, indeed.

During Goa's warmer months, the indoor seating offers a cool and comfortable escape. If the weather is pleasant, the outdoor bench let you enjoy your coffee while watching the relaxed pace of slow life go by. Indeed, that's our OG favourite spot! From sipping coffeee, to reading book, to sketching everyday scene.

It also offers a charming mezzanine seating. Tucked away above the main café, it feels cosy and peaceful, a perfect place to spend an hour reading, chatting, or simply enjoying a slow cup of coffee. Every corner of the café has its own personality.

Watching Babka Grow

Over the years, we've watched Café Babka quietly evolve.

What was once a hidden neighbourhood café has gradually become a favourite among both locals and travellers exploring North Goa. Yet, despite its growing popularity, it has managed to retain its warmth and character.

The atmosphere still feels welcoming rather than commercial, and that's something we truly appreciate.

Our Favourite Way to Enjoy Babka

These days, if we find the café packed which happens quite often, we simply order takeaway.

There's something incredibly special about picking up a coffee and a brownie before driving down to Anjuna Beach for a sunset. Sitting by the sea, watching the waves roll in with Babka's coffee in hand, has become a tradition we look forward to every time we're back in Goa. Sometimes the best café experience doesn't even happen inside the café.

Final Thoughts: Goa has no shortage of beautiful cafés, each with its own personality. But every now and then, you come across a place that becomes woven into your own story.

For us, Café Babka will always remind us of slow weekend afternoon, scenic drives through Parra, conversations over coffee, and countless trips to Anjuna.

If you're heading towards North Goa's beaches, don't rush straight to the shore.

Take a small detour, order a coffee, grab a brownie, and let your Goa day begin the way weekends once began for us, slowly, quietly, and with a little sweetness.

Sometimes, the journey is just as memorable as the destination. Ciao!
